Scientific Notation:

Conversion from Scientific Notation to Decimal Notation

We perform this conversion simply by moving the mantissa to the right or left , depending on whether the order of magnitude is positive or negative, respectively.

1.4786 x 103

As in this example the order of magnitude is positive, we must move the comma 3 positions to the right and eliminate the power:

1.4786 x 103 = 1478,6

In this other example, the order of magnitude is negative , so we must move the comma 2 positions to the left, eliminating the power:
4.483 x 10-2 = 0.04483
